Who we are
Derek Benton BA(Hons) GDL BVC - Partner
Derek Benton is a trained barrister and accomplished, HR professional with wide experience gained in commercial, fast-paced and challenging environments over the last 20 years. He has also worked with professional services firms utilising his HR, diversity & inclusion expertise to influence behavioural change.
Derek has been particularly successful in working with internal HR teams and operational business units to help promote the D and I agenda through innovative ways of working.
A solution-focused consultant Derek builds on the audience’s curiosity to help identify challenges and uses the group’s dynamics to maximise learning providing a very positive environment for honest conversations.
He has worked with KPMG, The Boston Consulting Group and IBM, where he has consulted and advised on strategy, policy and cultural change through diversity focused solutions. This has led to clients receiving recognition with organisations such as Investors in People, Stonewall, Business in the Community, Race for Opportunity, Opportunity Now, Business Disability Forum and Working Families, as well as numerous recruitment awards and appearing in the Times Top 10 lists.
His clients cut across the professional services, media and technology sectors and agencies focused on delivering public services.
Derek is a flautist and has interests in classical music, travel and social policy issues concerning LGBT communities.
Kulbir Shergill BA(Hons) - Partner
Kulbir is a management consultant focused on behavioural change, leadership development and learning to help business improve their overall performance. She brings over 10 years’ board level experience focused around equality, diversity and inclusion work. This includes designing and delivering corporate wide development activity to advising on curating strategies and policies on talent acquisition, identification and nurturing emerging talent to retention.
As a learning and development professional/facilitator she has an extremely effective way of supporting and nudging conversations between participants to help change mind sets and inspire the need for action.
Kulbir has worked with and advised major professional services companies, Government Agencies, International Charities and Community Interest Companies. These include KPMG, AXA Investment Management, Grant Thornton, The Bank of England, The British Red Cross, London School of Economics and the Guinness Trust.
Kulbir’s strategic approach to embedding diversity and inclusion has bought successful outcomes and recognition for a number of the organisations she has worked with, including achieving top employer by Stonewall, Wealth in the City and National Business Awards.
Recently she spoke at The World HRD conference in Mumbai and is currently carrying out research on the future role of the Chief Diversity Officer in the context of AI and robotics. Kulbir is active in the City of London through the Livery Company for Management Consultants where she is responsible for facilitating an annual programme of development and learning events for the profession.
Kulbir has interests in art, theatre and history. She is particularly focused on social policy issues concerning BAME communities.
Dr Noorzaman Rashid MBA BA(Hons) - Managing Partner
Noorzaman is an expert in large-scale cultural change through leadership development using “inclusion” as the golden thread for influencing and accelerating performance improvement and growth. He works with boards and executive teams in complex organisations. An alternative to coaching and mentoring he has created an approach called “leader development” supporting and challenging very experienced ‘C’ suite executives to push themselves further.
He is a board adviser to a wide range of businesses including The Business Laboratory (Houston), Strategies for Change (South Africa) and Clarity Informatics (UK). He has worked for several global talent management firms at board level including: Harvey Nash Group plc., BNB Resources plc., EDS and ATKearney, building significant businesses through organic growth, mergers and acquisitions. He established the Global Diversity Practice for Norman Broadbent.
His portfolio of public service Non Executive roles has included Chair of the NHS Institute for Innovation’s Worldwide Board and Group Chair of EACT a Multi Academy Trust. He was appointed Executive Chair of Firstsite, a new £28m Art contemporary Art Gallery to lead a major turnaround and cultural change programme. He is also a board member of the Foundation for Social Improvement.
Noorzaman is an author and former fellow of several universities including The University of Warwick Business School. Here he led international work in Japan, Russia, South Africa and the USA working with ministers, ambassadors and senior executives on complex governance issues.
Noorzaman has interests in design, wine tasting, cooking and is currently building a private library. He is a reader in social policy issues concerning ethics and artificial intelligence. He is the Immediate Past Master of the Livery Company for Management consultants.
